Anna hang up dyed skeins to dry

I dye the wool for my textiles by hand using natural dyes.

I use flowers, leaves, barks and roots, many collected sustainably from nature in the Ribeira Sacra.

I grow other dye plants in my garden e.g. dyers´chamomile and weld. In addition I use indigo, cochineal, logwood and brazilwood.

lichen with dyed yarn

Lichen dyes have been used for centuries all around the world.

I use the lichen Evernia Prunastri, very abundant in her area, to create a violet dye.

Aware of environmental concerns about dyeing with lichens I collect Evernia Prunastri sustainably - using only windfalls.

It takes up to two months to extract the beautiful mauve dye from the lichen.
